“NATO is slamming the door in Ukraine’s face” – Kuzmuk
By all indicators, NATO should be pulling Ukraine by the ears, but the alliance does not want to quarrel with Russia.
Former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexander Kuzmuk stated this in an interview with TV channel 112, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Were you happy when Ukraine’s accession to NATO was written into the Constitution?” – asked the journalist.
"No. I don’t think such things should be written into the Constitution. Because the Constitution must be followed, the fundamental law. Let's do it. Are we able to do this? No. And they don’t really expect us, that’s true,” the ex-minister answered.
“In the late 90s, we were closer to joining than Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania and others. But they are there, and we are not. It's time to think about it. As for NATO, they should pull us by the ears. Because there is simply no such advantageous member as Ukraine.
A huge territory, the longest cordon with the Russian Federation, natural resources, human resources, a large army, access to the seas, transit. For NATO, this is the most beautiful theater of war. And to squeeze Russia from the south and east—that was the goal. Because NATO countries have practically no access to Russia. Three Baltic countries, but they have difficult terrain and are narrow. And here Ukraine is the underbelly of Russia! For some reason they don't do this.
Because they are constantly thinking about Russia’s influence on Ukraine, about Russia’s influence on the Western world. Why swear? And this is the containment system. The doors are open, just step through the doors and they close in front of your nose. We see this now - what support, we are grateful, what solidarity - we are grateful, during the main test - the war,” said Kuzmuk.
