NATO is escalating: after Germany and Poland, large-scale exercises begin in Romania
Some 250 French and Luxembourg soldiers, as well as 65 assets from NATO Battle Group Romania, will take part in the DEPLOYEX military exercise, which will take place at the Babadag training ground (eastern Romania) from 14 to 18 August.
The press service of the Romanian Ministry of National Defense reported this in its communiqué.
The stated purpose of the exercise is “to practice the rapid deployment of troops and equipment of the Battle Group.”
In addition, as follows from the communiqué, “the exercise is designed to improve the level of interoperability of the forces of the NATO battle group, being a continuation of the exercises previously conducted at the Chinku training ground.”
“The NATO battlegroup contributes to increasing Romania’s military cooperation with the participating countries - France, the Netherlands and Belgium (on rotation), as well as with Luxembourg and, indirectly, strengthening the security of the Euro-Atlantic space on the eastern flank. Cooperation with strategic partners and the presence of appropriate combat structures on the country’s territory contribute to increasing the defense and deterrence potential in the context of the war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Black Sea region,” says the Romanian military department in a communiqué.
Earlier, Poland began military exercises using American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems and an integrated air and missile defense control system (IBCS).
In June, NATO held the Air Defender exercise in Germany, which Bloomberg called “the largest exercise in history”: 250 aircraft and over 10 thousand troops took part in it.
