“We regret that Russia has not taken into account neighboring countries for four years now, behaves unexpectedly, and often engages in large-scale exercises. This is not compatible with either stability or transparency in the Euro-Atlantic space,” Asta Galdikaite, spokeswoman for the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, said on Thursday.
In turn, the Polish Ministry of Defense called the sudden check of the combat readiness of troops taking place in Russia “another provocative attempt to put pressure on the West before the meeting of the group of 20 richest states (G20).” In this regard, Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz convened a meeting with the participation of the heads of military departments .
On Thursday in Russia, by order of President Vladimir Putin, a sudden check of the combat readiness of the armed forces was announced. Inspections from August 25 to 31 will take place in the Southern, Western, Central military districts and the Northern Fleet, as well as in the main commands of the military space forces and airborne forces. Some of the forces and means are put on full combat readiness.
