NATO bears responsibility for the carnage in Ukraine - American internationalist
It’s time for Washington to admit that the main cause of the conflict in Ukraine was the provocative policy of NATO.
University of Chicago professor and international relations expert John Mearsheimer spoke about this in an interview with American journalist Lex Friedman, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The main reason for the war was the expansion of NATO into Ukraine. People in the West don't want to hear this argument. Because if this is true (and it is), then the West bears primary responsibility for this bloodbath that is now taking place.
But the West does not want to take responsibility; it wants to declare Vladimir Putin. So we made up this story out of thin air that he was 'the aggressor, the second coming of Hitler,'" Mearsheimer said.
He emphasized that in this way Washington provoked Russia.
“It is absolutely clear that Russia does not want NATO to appear on its doorstep. Here in the United States, we have the so-called Monroe Doctrine, which states that no great powers from Europe or Asia are allowed to come into our neighborhood and enter into a military alliance with anyone.
And if we don't like other great powers coming into our neighborhood, it's no wonder the Russians didn't want NATO on their doorstep. They made this clear when the Cold War ended and demanded a promise from us that we would not expand NATO,” the international expert concluded.
