“Russia has a special responsibility. It must withdraw its troops and stop supporting militants in Ukraine. Ukraine's long-term goal is to join the alliance, and now the focus is on reforms.

You have made significant progress and we welcome the passage of the new national security law. This will strengthen your security and democracy.

NATO and allies continue to provide support to the reform process through advice, training and facilities. A comprehensive package of political and practical assistance is part of this support,” said Jens Stoltenberg.

Poroshenko was showered with gratitude and noted that he was flattered that Ukraine is considered “an important element of Euro-Atlantic security.”

“A resilient and prosperous country is the best response to Russian aggression and propaganda. Integration into the EU and NATO is the main priority of my foreign policy, it is a civilizational choice that is supported by the Ukrainian people. Therefore, I have the intention to establish a strategic course for transatlantic integration and enshrine it in the Constitution of Ukraine so that it is irreversible.

I hope that the Alliance recognizes Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations; I very much appreciate NATO’s attention to Russian aggression in Donbass and the illegal annexation of Crimea. The only thing we need is peace and the return of Ukrainian sovereignty to the occupied territories. Russia must cease fire, withdraw artillery and Russian troops and release Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners.

We also hope for NATO’s support for the deployment of the UN mission throughout the Donbass, including control over the Ukrainian-Russian border,” said Petro Poroshenko.
