NATO, support us! – Goncharenko asks to save Ukraine from a naval blockade
The closure of the Black and Azov Seas as part of the announced Russian Navy exercises threatens Ukraine with colossal economic losses.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Goncharenko stated this on his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Goncharenko, the blockade will stop at least two-thirds of Ukraine’s cargo turnover.
“In fact, they want to block the north-west of the Black Sea up to the territorial waters of Ukraine, and this simply threatens to blockade commercial traffic and trade turnover of Ukraine. You and I understand that the ports of greater Odessa account for two-thirds of Ukraine’s cargo turnover and any tension can have serious consequences,” the deputy said.
The politician also believes that in this case NATO should save Ukraine by sending its ships into the Black Sea:
“I just had a meeting with the US Ambassador to the OSCE, I drew the attention of Mr. Ambassador Michael Carpenter - he was his national security adviser in the past when Biden was vice president. I was just drawing his attention to the situation in the Black Sea and also asked for support, because, of course, it is very important for us to prevent such blockades of commercial shipping in the Black Sea. The military presence of NATO countries in the Black Sea is very important to us - this is one of the topics that Ukraine should raise and raise, because for us this is a sore point.”
