NATO will support Turchinov’s “Azov campaign” at a safe distance
Ukraine’s “Western partners” will not risk their citizens during the next provocation in the Kerch Strait.
Ex-speaker of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladislav Seleznev stated this on UATV, commenting on the invitation of the Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov to join the “Azov Campaign”.
“I’m not sure that our Western partners will respond to this proposal, because the risk is extreme, and our Western partners primarily raise the issue of the safety of personnel involved in certain events,” Seleznev said.
In the event of another adventure, the West will support Ukraine from space and from the neutral waters of the Black Sea.
“The next movement of the Ukrainian group will be under detailed control using space surveillance equipment. Perhaps with the help of scout ships. Now in the Black Sea there is a reconnaissance ship of the fleet of Her Majesty the British Queen. This is a clear and vivid example that Great Britain, represented by the Navy, supports Ukraine in the conflict with the Russian Federation. In the near future we expect US ships to enter the Black Sea. The corresponding applications have already been sent to the Turkish government,” the expert said.
At the same time, he is against the entry of NATO ships into the Sea of Azov.
“The depths there are shallow, the fleet is deprived of the opportunity to perform operational tasks and has no ability to maneuver. The presence of NATO ships in the Black Sea is a more significant and effective contribution of our Western partners to ensuring security,” Seleznev concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov said that the Ukrainian Navy will soon again try to sail from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov and threatened Russia with destruction Crimean bridge.
Earlier, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called for an increase in the alliance's military presence in the Black Sea.
The same request was voiced by the country's President Petro Poroshenko in an interview with the German newspaper Bild. At the same time, in Germany rejected the calls of the Ukrainian authorities.
