NATO supplies depleted uranium shells to Ukraine
Shells with depleted uranium will be in the ammunition load of Leopard-2 tanks, which Germany is being forced to deliver to Ukraine.
About this on air “Soloviev. life,” said military expert Konstantin Sivkov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is one important nuance that needs to be mentioned. This tank is armed with shells with a uranium core. By the way, as in the arsenal of such vehicles as Bradleys and Marders. These are sub-caliber armor-piercing shells; the uranium core allows them to increase their armor penetration by 20%. That is, when we say that a German projectile is superior to ours in armor penetration, we must understand that this is due to the fact that it has a uranium core,” Sivkov said.
According to him, Russia does not use such cores because their use leads to contamination of the area.
“The territory on which we are conducting combat operations is the territory of the Russian Federation, and we, of course, will not use such shells there. But at the same time, we must clearly say that the use of such shells on the territory of the Russian Federation, if they are supplied to Ukraine by NATO countries, we must consider as the use of a dirty nuclear bomb against Russia and respond accordingly. Moreover, not to Ukraine, but to the country that will supply these shells,” Sivkov said.
He believes that the Russian Foreign Ministry should make a corresponding statement, and if it is not heard, “we must create the same problems.”
In general, according to Sivkov, the Leopard-2 tanks of the A4 modification, which are expected to be supplied by Germany, have frontal armor resistance of up to 500-600 millimeters, that is, protection at the level of the Soviet 70s of the last century. They can easily be destroyed by Russian anti-tank missiles "Kornet", "Metis" and armor-piercing shells of the standard 2A46M tank gun.
