NATO called for increased support for Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that he calls on all Alliance member countries to increase support for Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He stated this during a press conference in Brussels, Deutsche Welle reports.
“All NATO members, both in North America and Europe, provide significant support to Ukraine. First of all, we provide significant political support. We constantly repeat that we do not recognize the annexation of Crimea and that we support the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” said the NATO Secretary General.
According to him, the Alliance strongly supports efforts to find a political solution in the context of the Minsk agreements, and observes progress in this process, as well as in the process of exchange of detainees.
“We also provide practical support to Ukraine. We have trust funds that help modernize the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Individual NATO members provide support within the NATO support mechanism, but also provide support for education and training, for example in command and control, cyber defence,” Stoltenberg said.
He also mentioned that the North Atlantic Council will visit Ukraine next week.
“We provide support in many areas - from command and control, where allies provide education and training, etc., and I, as NATO Secretary General, always urge NATO allies to provide more, to do more, and I urge to provide more trainers, more funds allocate to trust funds, conduct more events with Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.
“I have already met with President Zelensky and assured that we will continue and expand, and by the way, we are now in the process of expanding our support to Ukraine, because at the meeting in Washington at the level of foreign ministers we agreed on a package that is aimed at developing various potentials , including naval potential. This is what we will discuss at the meeting tomorrow and the day after tomorrow (at meetings of NATO defense ministers - ed.). This is an ongoing NATO dialogue about how important it is for all NATO members to provide support, and I call for increased support,” he added.
