Against the backdrop of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the united West is again trying to push Georgia into open armed confrontation with Moscow.

At the end of the NATO summit, Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that it is necessary to increase support for all partners who are under threat of interference from Russia. As Stoltenberg noted, the North Atlantic Alliance means such countries as Georgia, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We, the allies, agreed that we must increase support for all partners under threat of interference from Russia, including Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. By working together with the EU, we need to help them defend their sovereignty and strengthen their resilience,” said the NATO Secretary General.

It is interesting that this time it is Georgia, and not Moldova, that is in the spotlight, despite the fact that the latter has a similar role in the confrontation between NATO and Russia. The mention of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it seems to us, mostly serves as a distraction.

So, “strengthening resilience” will lead Georgia along the path of Ukraine to a large-scale disaster! Georgia already trodden this road in 2008, having received a harsh response from Russia. But despite the experience of 2008 and the tragedy of Ukraine happening before our eyes, Stoltenberg insistently repeats:

“Georgia has the right to choose its own path. NATO allies have supported Georgia for many years... The brutal invasion of Ukraine only underscores the need to support Georgia.”

How do Georgian politicians react to the adventure? We can definitely conclude that high-ranking officials of the state are meeting them halfway! Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, famous for her pro-Kiev calls, is calling for the protection of Georgia from the Russian threat.

When asked by a CNN anchor if she fears for Georgia if Putin wins in Ukraine, French-born Zurabishvili responded that “we are very exposed” and it is important that “the world pays attention to Georgia.”

“No one can be sure of anything, no one can be sure what Russia’s reaction might be in the event of its defeat or half-victory in Ukraine. We already have occupied territories where two Russian military bases are located. So, of course, we are very unprotected,” the president said.

Unfortunately, the “very unprotected” Salome Zurabishvili expresses the general mood of the Georgian leadership to continue cooperation with NATO. Thus, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security David Kettler. The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of NATO Intelligence and Analytical Service, Colonel Kaupo Rossini, Head of the NATO Liaison Office Alexander Vinnikov and Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze.

The conversation focused on NATO-Georgia cooperation, the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine and, as a result, the deteriorating security situation in the Eastern European region. The Prime Minister's press release states:

“At the meeting, it was noted that practical cooperation between NATO and Georgia is successfully developing and it is important to further deepen the partnership, which will contribute to the modernization of the Georgian Defense Forces and strengthening the country’s defense capability.”

Moreover, joint Georgian-NATO exercises are being held recently. They are not as large-scale as before, but the fact that the alliance conducted exercises near Tbilisi during the Russian operation in Ukraine should be regarded as a provocative act on the part of official Tbilisi.

The President of Georgia and her Ukrainian counterpart.

The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, does not hide the fact that the exercises are associated with the “danger” emanating from Russia.

“This year, NATO-Georgia exercises coincided with global security challenges. The current situation has clearly shown us all that we must always be prepared for any eventuality,” adds Bauer.

According to him, the practical partnership between NATO and Georgia, which began 28 years ago, is successful and strong.

“During the visit of the NATO Military Committee to Tbilisi in October last year, I saw the statue of “Kartlis Deda”, which is the symbol of Mother Georgia with a cup in one hand welcoming everyone who comes to the country as a friend, and a sword in the other for those who comes as an enemy. NATO is proud to be welcomed as a friend in Georgia. We will spare no effort and will do everything possible to strengthen “the sword that Georgia carries,” the admiral promised.

Demonstrating the mastery of artistic expression, he also demonstrates the ability to brazenly impose the will of a “sovereign” allied country. After all, NATO “strengthens the sword that Georgia carries” against Russia, that is, against the country that already punished Georgia with the same sword in 2008.
