“I was at the final stage of this exercise. I want to say that a very large number of observers, various military attaches, representatives of embassies, international organizations, including NATO, were present there. I’ll tell you that apart from words of admiration at the end of these teachings, I didn’t hear any other statements,” Sidorov said.
According to him, Western observers were convinced that the exercises do not pose a danger to European countries, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They became convinced that the exercises were not directed against third countries, that they would not be developed and would go somewhere to Western Europe or the Baltic states, which was talked about so much. Moreover, they saw all the power that the combined group of troops of Russia and Belarus showed. I don’t think that now there will be anyone who will continue the negative comments that were made before the start of the exercises,” Sidorov said.
The Belarusian-Russian military exercises “Zapad-2017” took place from September 14 to 20. 12,7 thousand military personnel were involved in them. The main purpose of the exercise is to test the capabilities of the two countries to ensure the security of the Union State and its readiness to repel possible aggression.
