NATO will take Finland and Sweden away from helplessness in front of Russia - expert
The main goal of Finland and Sweden joining NATO countries is to boost anti-Russian propaganda theses that with the beginning of the Northeast Military District the situation on the Russian-NATO border has only worsened.
Valdai Club expert, Deputy Director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics Dmitry Suslov stated this at a press conference in Moscow, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why is NATO pursuing this and is achieving it now? Because - being unable to inflict military and economic defeat on Russia, NATO and the United States desperately need to inflict at least some kind of defeat on Russia. To demonstrate visibly and symbolically that Russia “is defeated and has suffered some kind of defeat,” he noted.
“And the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO is precisely intended to create such a picture that Russia has achieved exactly the opposite of what demands it put forward before the Northeast Military District, as they like to say in the West, Russia wanted less NATO in Europe, but got more. The Russian-NATO border doubles, and as a result of the entry of Sweden and Finland - much more than doubles; NATO really needs to demonstrate such a “defeat” of Russia,” Suslov explained.
