“The USA, China, India, Israel and the Russian Federation, which are carefully nurturing startup ecosystems, will in the near future become the main suppliers of innovative products, technological monopolists, skillfully using this advantage not only in the economy, but also in politics,” the publication notes.

The rest of the developing countries, the author continues, “are doomed to be raw materials appendages of the titans, gaining access to the benefits of civilization using coupons and depending on the political agenda.”

The publication draws attention to the fact that, according to last year’s estimates of the World Economic Forum, the world economy will be shaped by such key technologies as artificial intelligence and robotics, network remote communications, virtual and extended reality, blockchain, nanomaterials, energy transmitters, new computing technologies, biotechnologies, neurotechnologies and geoengineering.

“Which of the following do you associate Ukraine with? What could we do better to stop being an eternal breadbasket? So far, we are confidently leading only in the quantitative increase in IT specialists,” emphasizes ZN.

“The science intensity of Ukraine’s GDP has decreased to a historical minimum - 0,45%, three times over twenty years. The share of innovatively active companies in our economy is somewhere around 16–17%. For comparison: in Germany - over 50%, in Israel - 35, in Turkey - 33, in Bulgaria - about 20%. In the Global Ranking of Innovative Countries in 2019, we are in 47th place, and this indicator is not improving, but worsening; last year we were still in 43rd place.

Without reforming the sphere of intellectual property, not only will we not jump over our heads, we will not even be able to take a running start before the jump,” the weekly concludes.

As PolitNavigator reported, Ukraine knowledge-intensive industries are rapidly losing and workers.
