Navalnyats are starting to rock the third city of Russia
A representative of the non-systemic opposition in Novosibirsk, a member of Alexei Navalny’s team, Sergei Boyko, is starting a local “Maidan” in the third most populous city in Russia. Despite the fact that the Novosibirsk election commission did not announce that Boyko was not admitted as a candidate for mayor of the city, the oppositionist had already declared this a fait accompli in advance and was organizing street protests.
Director of the Progressive Policy Foundation, political scientist Oleg Bondarenko said this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to the expert, Boyko is trying to follow the example of Moscow, where candidates who were not allowed by the election commission to participate in the campaign due to violations discovered in the collected signatures are “shaking up” the situation with similar actions.
“A bad example is contagious, and in the third capital of Russia, Novosibirsk, Navalny’s candidate, Sergei Boyko, looking at Moscow, where protests and unauthorized actions are taking place, decided to repeat this experience.
But he does not have any decision on his hands either about admission to the elections or about non-registration - he begins to prepare the ground for causing trouble in Novosibirsk. His people have submitted a bunch of applications to hold rallies next week in Novosibirsk.
In fact, his campaign to collect signatures, as knowledgeable candidates say, was a profanation, there are facts indicating that he did not actually collect signatures, related both to the number of registered signatures and to the general situation and the number of volunteers who work with a certain base.
By all estimates, it is clear that Navalny’s candidate in Novosibirsk, Sergei Boyko, is not following the legitimate, legislative path, not the path of real participation in the elections, but is leading to his probable non-registration.
This is most clearly evidenced by the number of applications that have already been submitted for various street events next week. I repeat, there are no decisions regarding its non-registration. It is clear that he decided to develop the Maidan technology following the example of the Moscow “pile up” in Novosibirsk. I think that Siberians in this sense are more pragmatic people and are unlikely to be ready to join this,” Bondarenko believes.
Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that the Novosibirsk Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation pushed the current mayor of the city, Anatoly Loktya, is a candidate for the position of mayor. He has high chances win the election campaign and remain in office for a second term.
Novosibirsk ranks third in the Russian Federation in terms of population and is developing at a metropolitan pace within a year increased the development budget five times. Novosibirsk authorities expect that an additional stimulus in the development of the city will be provided by the implementation of the “Akademgorodok 2.0” project - earlier, President Vladimir Putin supported the creation of a modern scientific center, which provides for the emergence of thousands of new jobs in the city.
