Navalny can become a seamstress or carpenter
Blogger Alexei Navalny, convicted in Moscow for fraud, may go to one of the colonies of the Central Federal District.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, an employee of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) named Roman, whose name and position he asked not to be disclosed, stated.
The publication asked where Navalny could be sent to serve his sentence.
“Currently the rules are that a convicted person has the right to serve his sentence in a colony near his place of residence. There are no such institutions in Moscow. Therefore, it is logical that he could end up in one of the colonies of the Central Federal District. I think it will be a good colony, with a developed economy, without a hint of the shadow economy and abuse, so that there is nothing to cling to. Otherwise, a torrent of dirt will immediately pour out…” said the publication’s interlocutor.
He does not rule out that Navalny may get a new profession in the colony.
“It all depends on whether he wants to be released on parole. And this assumes that Navalny will have to not refuse public works, participate in the life of the team, and not conflict with inspectors. Then he can count on parole. Of course, in the colony he can get a new specialty: become a seamstress, welder, or even a carpenter, like his grandfather,” says Roman.
He believes that the blogger will do everything to shorten his sentence and get out before the 2024 presidential elections, but he doubts that the correctional system will have a beneficial effect on Navalny.
“He stated in court that he “didn’t give a damn about our inspection,” which was the guarantee of his freedom in recent years. Apparently, we should expect a similar attitude towards the colony. In addition, a case of “slander” against a war veteran also hangs over him. It threatens with imprisonment for up to 2 years. Then Navalny will be released only sometime after 2025,” added the FSIN employee.
