Navalny again changes position on Crimea
If the Russian Central Election Commission does not register Alexei Navalny as a presidential candidate, he will begin a campaign to boycott the elections. Navalny’s ally Vladimir Ashurkov stated this while speaking at the liberal “Free Russia Forum” in Vilnius.

“On December 22, we are holding an initiative group to nominate Alexey for president. On the 24th we will submit an application to the CEC. If it is accepted, we will have about 20 days to collect signatures. If not, we will go to court. On January 5-7 it will become clear whether the candidate is admitted or not. If he is not allowed, we will begin an active boycott campaign, the parameters of which we will inform,” Ashurkov said.
As it turned out, the attitude towards the reunification of Crimea with Russia in Navalny’s team has once again changed, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Of course, we consider what happened in Crimea and what continues to happen in eastern Ukraine to be a mistake. The issue of Crimea is not an easy one; it seems to me that it has been going on for decades. It is stupid for any rational Russian politician to say that Crimea will definitely be returned to Ukraine. After this, a significant part or the overwhelming majority of Russian residents will not want to vote for him,” Ashurkov said.
As PolitNavigator reported, Alexei Navalny previously called the Crimean referendum a “fake” and called for a new plebiscite to be held on the peninsula. And even earlier, in 2014, he advised Ukrainians to stop hoping that Crimea would one day return to their jurisdiction.
