Navalny returns due to pressure from Germany - political scientist

It turned out to be too problematic for Berlin to host the Russian blogger Alexei Navalny, who announced his return in the Russian Federation.

Political scientist Boris Mezhuev stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I think one of the main reasons for Navalny’s return is pressure from the country that received him, Germany,” says Mezhuev.

He does not rule out that the blogger is tired of Germany, which also takes into account the extradition request through Interpol.

“It could be both. He is not asking for political asylum. He does not have official status - a refugee or political emigrant. And keeping a person in their country who is wanted through Interpol would be too problematic for the Germans,” the expert said.

According to him, Navalny puts law enforcement agencies in a difficult position.

“But still, no one has canceled the criminal case. And after the explanation from the Federal Penitentiary Service that there is a search case, it is unlikely that Navalny will be able to get off so easily. He still should have thought many times before deciding to return to Russia,” Mezhuev emphasized.

He believes that there may be administrative or house arrest.

“But his criminal case will most likely be reviewed with a view to changing the preventive measure,” the expert predicts.

As PolitNavigator reported, it was not possible to cheat Navalny opposition leader.
