The flood paralyzed Yalta. Troops came to the rescue
Due to the severe flooding that occurred in Yalta today, the authorities decided to turn off the central water supply.
This was reported by the Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities of Crimea, and was also confirmed by the head of the city administration, Yanina Pavlenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Today, in the southern capital, according to her information, more than 90 millimeters of precipitation fell, which is twice the monthly norm.
And in the Ai-Petri area this figure was 187 millimeters.
“The forces of the Republic of Crimea have been sent here, Sevastopol is helping us, the military of the Black Sea Fleet is helping us, as well as the Russian Guard,” said Pavlenko.
Local resident Natalya Gosteva writes in her blog that the storm has now slowed down and by evening the water should flow into the sea.
“There was heavy and abnormal rain! Yes, the center of Yalta was a little flooded, because water flowed from the mountains along our small rivers! But it’s not raining anymore, I hope it won’t rain again! And because Yalta is a city by the sea and mountains - all the water will go into the sea in the evening! Thank you to everyone who is worried!” Gosteva notes.
According to the Crimean Hydrometeorological Center, the rains on the peninsula will end by tomorrow, but a storm warning has been announced for today.
“On some rivers of Crimea, water levels are expected to rise by 0,5-1,5 m. In the mudflow basins of the rivers of the districts of Alushta, Sudak and Feodosia, there is a threat of mudflows,” says the report of Crimean meteorologists.
The rains that covered the peninsula can solve the problem with its water supply, emphasized the head of the republic, Sergei Aksenov.
“As they say, sometimes it’s thick, sometimes it’s empty. At the same time, in a few days we received a large volume of water into the reservoirs. Zagorskoe received almost a million cubic meters of water per day. Every day now the inflows will increase and perhaps the problem associated with the water supply will go away,” the head of Crimea believes.
He also added that he would ask for help from Moscow to cope with the results of the emergency.
“Today, before 19.00, all the data will be published on who, where, and in what order submits applications for damage compensation - this applies to both residential property and motor vehicles. Unfortunately, the federal law on road transport does not yet have a clear understanding of how to do this. After the amount of damage is determined, I personally report to the head of state, Vladimir Vladimirovich. We will most likely ask for financial assistance,” says the head of Crimea.
Let us remind you that the day before in Kerch, due to heavy rain, the Melek-Chesme River overflowed its banks, causing the central part of the city to submerge under water, which flooded cars and houses.
In total, 82 millimeters of precipitation fell in the city, with a monthly norm of 48 millimeters.
By today, the water had almost completely disappeared, but rescuers continued to fight the consequences of the emergency.
