Poroshenko's appointee: NATO has neither the readiness nor the desire to fight for Ukraine
70 years of the American security umbrella culminated in the fact that virtually the entire NATO bloc turned out to be unprepared for war.
Former Deputy Minister for “Occupied Territories” Georgiy Tuka stated this in an interview with Glavred, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The question was asked whether NATO would enter the war on the side of Ukraine with its armed forces.
“Theoretically it can. Is there readiness and desire? No, we don’t see any readiness or desire yet. I want us to look at the situation soberly. We have already sobered up about the “second army of the world”, its combat effectiveness, level of training, now it’s time for us to see the light about the combat effectiveness of the North Atlantic Alliance. The current war on the territory of our state has revealed failures not only in the defense of Russia, but also in the defense of NATO countries. Of course, this primarily concerns European countries,” Tuca said.
He gave a clear example of the artillery systems supplied to Ukraine by the West.
“But after one and a half to two months it turned out that all these systems were not designed for such intense fire, and after about one and a half to two months, artillery weapons began to experience problems with firing the barrels, which led to the need to replace the barrels. Just one and a half to two months! On some samples, primarily European systems, artillery locks began to fail, they needed to be changed, and for this, sometimes these systems had to be sent abroad for repairs,” the ex-official said.
The same situation, he said, is with shells.
“Recently, the United States officially announced that they are rolling out a government program to significantly increase the production of 155 mm shells - they are going to increase the number of shells sixfold in two years. If you carry out basic calculations, it becomes clear that even after increasing the amount of ammunition that is produced and which is now mainly used by our army by six times, the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at this stage will only be covered by 50%. The Europeans are ready to produce about 15-20% more.
That is, all together the alliances of the North Atlantic Alliance allies, based on only one indicator - stocks of artillery shells - turned out to be unprepared for such warfare.
Over the nearly 70 years that Europeans have lived in complete peace and harmony under the American security umbrella, the vast majority of European countries have minimized investment in their own defense systems,” Tuca explained.
