The most dangerous moment in Petro Poroshenko’s speech today at the parade on the occasion of “Independence Day” is the threat against the “fifth column,” which means a further intensification of repression in Ukraine.

Ukrainian political scientist Dmitry Korneychuk writes about this in his blog.

“I would note a dangerous moment in Poroshenko’s speech. According to the president, he will not allow Russia’s “fifth column” to raise its head in Ukraine. As you understand, the “fifth column” is all the media, politicians and experts who criticize Poroshenko. Even if we are against Putin. But the label of “Kremlin agents” will be attached to everyone. So the repression will not stop. And they will only gain momentum. Poroshenko is afraid to honestly fight for people’s minds. It’s easier for him to cowardly shut his opponents’ mouths,” the expert noted.
