In 2025, Ukraine will finally lose its status as the main transit country for Russian gas.
The director of the National Energy Security Fund, Konstantin Simonov, who is considered close to Gazprom, stated this in an interview with the Balkanist YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As you know, we have a five-year contract covering 2020-24. It is not worth saying that on January 1, 2025, Ukraine will cease to be a transit country for Russian gas, but it will become a reserve supplier. Perhaps we will retain some obligations, but Ukraine will cease to be the main transit artery,” Simonov said.
Ukraine now accounts for less than half of Russian gas transit to Europe, but remains a significant transit country.
