The sharp escalation of the situation in Donetsk that occurred last night was caused by the result of the recently carried out rotation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The commander of the Ministry of Emergency Situations detachment for carrying out special high-risk work “Legion” Sergei Zavdoveev told the PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Firstly, there has recently been a rotation on the contact line. As far as I know, there was initially an agreement in Minsk to reduce the intensity of shelling. The Ukrainian Armed Forces were supposed to replace the terrorist battalions, but they did the opposite: where there were remnants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, they were pulled back, and terrorist battalions and mercenaries were sent forward. This, I think, is one of the reasons why they started shooting,” Zavdoveev commented.
