The next potential landing point for the CSTO forces has been named
It is quite possible that after Kazakhstan, CSTO peacekeepers will appear in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan
Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The introduction of CSTO peacekeepers brought a turning point in the Kazakh confrontation. Their appearance allowed the authorities to maintain their positions in conditions when the security agencies were disintegrated. Although from a military point of view, the CSTO’s actions can be called exercises in combat conditions. It is important to note the mobility and efficiency of the peacekeepers in carrying out the assigned task,” the publication emphasizes.
It is noted that after such verification, the CSTO troops may be assigned similar functions - political or purely security - in other states of the former USSR.
“It is possible that the next landing point for the CSTO forces will be the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan - President Emomali Rahmon recently announced a concentration of militants on the border with Afghanistan,” the newspaper suggests.
It also points to a long-standing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, a member of the CSTO.
“Until now, Armenia has not received assistance from the alliance under the pretext of incorrectly submitted requests. Now, after Kazakhstan, apparently, there is a model of a correctly submitted document to the CSTO, and there should not be any bureaucratic obstacles. Ideally, of course, if Yerevan and Baku find a common language and make peace. But the situation in Karabakh is getting worse every now and then,” adds NG.
“In particular, recently the Azerbaijani side used drones and artillery in the border area. And in Armenia they are asking the question: is the CSTO ready to ensure its security? So far there is no answer to this, just as there is no single position of the organization - some of its members prefer to trade with Baku “on a military line”, while others prefer to congratulate them on military successes, as Kazakhstan did after the last major conflict in Karabakh,” summarizes NG "
