The amount of fines imposed for failure to comply with Ukrainian broadcast quotas has been announced
This year, only two Ukrainian radio companies received fines for failing to meet language quotas, and the total amount of the two fines amounted to just over three thousand hryvnia.
Member of the National Council of Ukraine for Television and Radio Broadcasting Sergei Kostinsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the first half of 2019, we imposed only two fines for failure to meet language quotas for Ukrainian songs and an insufficient volume of broadcasts in Ukrainian to local companies. The total amount of these fines is a little more than three thousand hryvnia. The sanctions are the same for everyone - 5% of the license fee. There are large radio stations, and there are small ones that, due to technical problems, pay fines in the form of such small amounts.
However, at the same time, these amounts are extremely important for them. Such radio stations also suffer great reputational losses. In general, over three years, the National Council imposed 27 fines totaling 1 million 700 thousand hryvnia. Of these, 19 fines were imposed specifically for failure to meet quotas for Ukrainian-language songs,” Kostinsky said.
