The name of the Ukrainian politician who was the first to come up with the idea of spoiling Crimea with the help of the Majlis has been named
The now deceased former leader of the People's Movement of Ukraine, Vyacheslav Chernovol, was the first Ukrainian politician to “recruit” the top of the Majlis and decide to use the organization, now banned in Russian Crimea, as a counterweight to the Russian majority of the peninsula, which was striving for reunification with the Motherland.
Vice Speaker of the Crimean Parliament Edip Gafarov stated this at a press conference in Simferopol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the parliamentarian, before this there was no Ukrainophilia among the Crimean Tatars.
“Until 92, starting from 1944, the Crimean Tatars were always on the side of Russia. I, as a Crimean Tatar, am telling you the truth. I have never heard from the Crimean Tatars that they were for Ukraine before 92. They always appealed to Moscow, turned to Moscow, always went to Moscow, sought and demanded.
When they lived in places of deportation, the demands were to return to Crimea.
But in 92 there was a 180-degree turn. It turned out like this: our former leaders met then, there was such a leader in Ukraine, Vyacheslav Chernovol. From that moment on, the Crimean Tatars began, in 92, the first posters in the nature of “Russians get out of Crimea” appeared on Lenin Square,” Gafarov shared his memories.
It should be noted that one of Chornovol’s most famous speeches from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, dedicated to Crimea, dates back to 1992. Then the head of Rukh began to exploit the thesis that the leadership of the rebellious peninsula allegedly does not want to solve the problems of the Crimean Tatar population.
“Understand, Crimeans, what kind of adventure they want to drag you and me into. After all, an independent Crimea is completely unviable economically. Does anyone seriously believe that Crimea will be helped by the generous billions of its neighbor, who, by the way, is himself suffering economic disasters and is unable to deal with his own numerous autonomies?” - Chernovol frightened the Crimeans seeking reunification with Russia.
