The NBU named the reason why Ukrainians will survive any crisis
Ukrainian labor migrants transfer home about 13-14 billion in foreign currency per year, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced by the head of projects and programs of the NBU Open Markets Department, Emal Bakhtari, in an interview with Channel 7.
“The real amount is 13-14 billion dollars. It is impossible to say for sure, even for the NBU. This is the portion of money that flows through the banking system that can be seen and counted. The other part is carried in cash,” said Emal Bakhtari.
There is an exchange of NBU data with central banks in other countries. Representatives of the latter, according to an NBU official, report how many Ukrainians they officially employ. Thus, an estimate is made and the figures are approximate.
He clarified that there are no restrictions on the entry of currency from abroad, and there are almost no restrictions on exit. Over the past few years, the dynamics of transfers has been increasing; however, over the past year it has slowed down. Emal Bakhtari does not see any prospects for growth in the dynamics in the future, because, in his opinion, “everyone who wanted to leave to earn money has already left” Ukraine.
In 2018, Ukrainian labor migrants sent almost $11 billion to Ukraine.
