There will be no autonomy for Donbass, and there will be no peacekeepers, Moscow said
Ukraine’s refusal to extend the law on the special status of the LDPR makes a peacekeeping mission in Donbass impossible. Senator Alexey Pushkov stated this today during a round table in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

“Rejection of the law destroys the basis for discussing the issue of peacekeepers. The peacekeeping mission in Ukraine is related to the implementation of the Minsk agreements, is their continuation and can only grow on their basis. If the Minsk agreements are rejected by Kiev, then it also rejects negotiations on peacekeeping in Ukraine,” Pushkov said.
He explained that refusal to prolong the law is tantamount to abandoning the Minsk agreements, since the law is system-forming for the entire set of agreements. However, no one will hold Kyiv responsible for this.
“The West is not inclined to influence Ukraine. There is a consensus between the US and the EU to forgive Ukraine in order to maintain its anti-Russian course,” Pushkov said.
The Law of Ukraine on a special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions (on special status) was adopted on October 18, 2014. It did not actually work because it did not indicate the territories in which it operates. The law expires on October 18, 2017; Ukraine refuses to renew it.
