“Don’t let the East have time to create a Russian party!” – grant eaters call for urgent elections
Kyiv, June 05 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – Early elections to the Verkhovna Rada must be held as quickly as possible so that the vacuum created by the collapse of the Party of Regions is not filled by radical pro-Russian forces.
This opinion was voiced at a round table in Kyiv, where Ukrainian experts discussed the results of the presidential campaign.

The electorate of the Communists and the Party of Regions remained “ownerless,” so it could serve as the basis for the emergence of a radical pro-Russian political force, political scientists say.
In the last presidential elections, the real turnout in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions was 3% and 5%, respectively, and these regions and the Kharkov region accounted for about 8% of voters, while the total share of voters in the three eastern regions was about 22%.
One of the features of the past elections was that they did not present a candidate who reflected the sentiments of voters in the east of the country. The base region of the regional communists actually did not vote, noted Irina Bekeshkina, director of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation.
The fact that the Party of Regions and the Communists may cease to exist as significant forces in the near future could lead to the emergence of a political vacuum that could be filled by a more aggressive pro-Russian force, political scientists warn.
There is fermentation in the east of the country, believes Irina Bekeshkina “Now not only the communists have lost their voters, but also the Party of Regions. I think they will not pass in the next elections. But they have 30%. I think that now a radical pro-Russian force will emerge,” the sociologist predicts. In her opinion, it is these 30% that can become her electorate.
The threat of the emergence of such a force is one of the main reasons for the holding of parliamentary elections. If they are not held this year, then before the next elections such a force may take shape and enter parliament, political scientists predict.
“In the elections to the Verkhovna Rada there will be such a faction of separatists, in comparison with which the Party of Regions will be just buttercups,” says Viktor Rybachenko, vice-president of the Association of Political Psychologists of Ukraine.
