Not the scenery of Mosfilm: By the summer of 2018, Crimea will give Ukraine a new reason for hysteria
The new building of Simferopol International Airport will be put into operation by the summer of 2018. The general director of the airport, Evgeny Plaksin, stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, today work on 11 key positions out of 14 planned was completed on time.

“Everything is fine with the new terminal, we are actively working. Let's not lag behind, we have 14 serious key dates that we must pass in certain periods of time. We have already completed 11 of these dates exactly on time, now we are nearing the end of the 12th date... In the summer season of 2018, we will certainly enter the new air terminal complex,” Plaksin said.
In addition to the new terminal, the runway will be reconstructed. Now in Simferopol they operate a strip built in Soviet times as a reserve for receiving the Buran spacecraft.
According to him, this strip was built more than 30 years ago, and its service life has already expired, so a new one will be built in its place.
“We have entered an active phase; we plan to begin reconstruction of the old runway next year. By and large, this is new construction; it’s just that a new one will be built in place of the old lane. It will be increased by 500 meters and will accommodate all types of aircraft that operate in the Russian Federation... Currently we operate one runway, which is more than 30 years old. We maintain it in a normative state, but, of course, time takes its toll. It was a spare one, we have been operating it as one since 2002, but the standard life of concrete is now 25 years, at that time it was 20, and the strip was put into operation in 83,” Plaksin said.
Also, the first domestic baggage handling system, built in Russia for the first time since the 80s of the last century, will be installed in the new terminal of Simferopol Airport.
“This is a unique project for Russia. We were prompted to create it, among other things, by the issue of sanctions and the need for import substitution. We started looking at the Russian markets to see who is capable of doing this. We gathered companies that write software for controlling mechanical parts, found conveyor manufacturers in Russia, assembled an engineering team, and this united work made it possible to bring this idea to life. Since the 80s, no one has done anything like this in the Soviet Union,” Plaksin said.
