“We predicted a few weeks ago that there would be planned sabotage, the purpose of which is to undermine Ukraine’s reputation as a reliable transit country and to legitimize the construction of South Stream, the goal of which is not to diversify gas supplies to Europe, but to exclude Ukraine as a country that is one of the key transit countries to the European Union.
Therefore, it is absolutely clear who is interested in undermining trust in the Ukrainian gas transportation system. Ukraine declares that it is a reliable transit country; we have fulfilled and will fulfill all our obligations regarding the transportation of natural gas,” he said.
In turn, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov said that the gas pipeline exploded as a result of external interference.
“In the course of studying the circumstances of the incident, the main reason and the main aspect of attention of the investigative authorities and emergency authorities is external intervention. We assume that the explosive device was placed under the base of the concrete support of the pipeline, after which two short explosions occurred, and then a large explosion,” Avakov said.
