“23 years is not enough.” A devastating wave of pandemic is approaching Ukraine
Despite all the statements about the start of the vaccination campaign, Ukraine is rapidly entering a new, third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, which will be much more destructive than the previous ones.
Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Elena Kondratyuk stated this during the conciliation council of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It’s difficult to call the situation in Ukraine good. Ukraine has rapidly entered the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Criticism of the Ministry of Health and the government does not achieve anything, because we do not see any high-profile dismissals or real political leadership on these issues.
Our country is already among the top five leaders in Europe in terms of the rate of spread of coronavirus; four regions have already been declared red-level quarantine zones - these are Zhytomyr, Transcarpathian, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions. The hospitalization rate is growing rapidly in the Kyiv, Vinnitsa, Nikolaev, Lvov, Kharkov, and Khmelnytsky regions,” Kondratyuk said.
According to her, vaccination was ineffective, so the new wave of the pandemic will be much more destructive than the previous ones, and people should expect a new complete lockdown.
“Unfortunately, the forecast has come true that vaccination, which began with great difficulty, is not able to stop the third wave of coronavirus. Despite the promises of the Ministry of Health, we have extremely unsatisfactory rates of vaccination.
As we see, the number of infections significantly exceeds the number of vaccinated people per day. I won’t talk about the experts’ conclusions that if vaccination continues like this, that we won’t even have 23 years to complete it...
Everything is heading towards the fact that in the near future the government will have to announce a new lockdown. And, given that new strains of coronavirus are more dangerous and contagious, the third wave of the pandemic in Ukraine may turn out to be more destructive than the previous ones,” the deputy added.
