Russia must officially recognize as illegal the decision of the Soviet leadership in 1954 to transfer the Crimean region from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Konstantin Zatulin at the Forum of Friends of Crimea in Livadia.

“Make a decision to abolish the shameful acts of 1954. We are tired of hearing that we took someone else’s land and someone else’s sea, which is absolutely untrue,” he said, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Since the collapse of the USSR, Crimea has been in a foreign state against its will,” Zatulin emphasized.

He rejected the idea that the reunification of Crimea with Russia destroyed fraternal relations with Ukraine.

“Brotherly relations cannot be built on lies. If they are built on lies, they are unbrotherly,” Zatulin said.
