“The litigation is related to the special procedure for entry and exit between Ukrainian territory and Crimea, which has been in force for three months now,” the publication informs. – This document, adopted in Kyiv under the slogans of protecting national interests, actually transferred Crimea to the status of either a foreign country or a blockade zone. The authorities must decide: if Kyiv does not recognize Russian jurisdiction on the peninsula, then, according to the Constitution, it must provide its citizens with free movement throughout the country. And if the same crossing rules apply at the border with Crimea as at other international checkpoints, then maybe it’s time to officially recognize that Crimea is not part of Ukraine?”
The newspaper recalls that new rules requiring detailed checks of documents have created conditions for huge traffic jams in the Kherson region and quotes the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, who said: “The Russians have set up an ideal checkpoint, there is everything for people there. Our people cross the border - and we don’t even have an awning, awnings, water, or toilets. A complete dump." After this, Prime Minister Yatsenyuk instructed to equip checkpoints before winter.
True, human rights activists demand that by winter the government completely abolish the travel rules introduced in June.
“Today, a group of lawyers is in the interests of citizens who live both on the mainland of Ukraine and on the territory of Crimea, as well as in the interests of foreign citizens who are faced with the fact that today they do not fall into the category of persons who can enter territory of Crimea, filed a lawsuit in the District Administrative Court of Kiev,” NG quotes lawyer of the Helsinki Group for Human Rights Daria Sviridova.
On Wednesday, a preliminary hearing in this case took place in Kyiv, the publication notes, and the trial on the merits of the case was scheduled by the court for October 1.
