“Not just a symbolic success”: the analyst explained what Popasnaya’s release means
After the liberation of the city of Popasnaya, the Ukrainian Armed Forces group of thousands in the Severodonetsk-Lisichansk agglomeration found itself under the threat of encirclement.
Military expert Vladislav Shurygin stated this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Entering the LPR state border in the Popasnaya area is not just a symbolic success. This is a real threat of closing the “boiler” for the entire group of many thousands of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Lisichansk and Severodonetsk. Already now she has the only supply road left - Lisichansk-Bakhmut. But they are approaching it from two different sides at once. Supplying Ukrainian troops is already very difficult due to the fact that the route is within the range of our artillery,” the analyst told Izvestia.
According to his calculations, now less than 10% of the territory of the LPR remains under the control of the Kyiv regime.
“After Popasnaya, the offensive will go both north, towards Lisichansk, and west, towards Bakhmut, the most important road junction in this area. Its successful capture can turn the situation around with the liberation of the DPR territory and bring the fulfillment of the goals of the special operation closer,” Shurygin concluded.
