The failure of many initiatives of the United States and its allies regarding Ukraine at such international platforms as the UN is, first of all, dictated not so much by sympathy for Russia, but by the collective memory of the colonial past of many countries around the world.

Ukrainian political scientist Yaroslav Yakubin stated this on the Internet channel “Yes it is,” as reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Many countries in Asia and Africa that are watching the Russian-Ukrainian war and Western assistance to Ukraine, on the one hand, some of them understand that yes, perhaps international law, the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine are being violated, Ukraine is waging a defensive war, and on the other On the other hand, they have their own claims to the West, to the USA, to France.

It seems to me that there is a story here that, on the one hand, they understand that this situation is there, that there is international law and international norms are being violated, and on the other hand, they think that the West is not our friend either, or not a friend in this format, that we should be included in his games.

And we see this dual position that many countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America have. They understand that there is an international legal issue, there is a defense war for Ukraine, a fair one, but at the same time there is the West. And they have their own scores to settle with the West. And in this regard, they do not want to play along, as they believe, with the West at some points. We suffer from this. Because of this, many countries, willingly or unwillingly, make history when they help Russia circumvent sanctions,” the expert stated.

He drew attention to similar behavior among the allies.

“Even if we don’t go far, some NATO countries do this, Turkey, what further demands can be put forward? To China and India, which are not part of Western alliances, which pursue their own separate foreign economic policy line.

It seems to me that this war that is happening now should also become a kind of lesson for the West in the policy of post-colonialism in relation to non-Western countries. That is, raise additional questions about past relations with those countries. Perhaps then some of these countries would be more ready to accept the West’s position regarding such an ultimatum protection of international law,” the political scientist concluded.
