“Don’t sit opposite each other,” - the President of the PMR on participation in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine
President of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky does not consider the position of Ukraine, which refuses to take part in negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, to be constructive, citing that Russia is declared there as a mediator.
He stated this on air on the First Pridnestrovsky TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are different forms: there are remote contact forms, there are separated contact forms. By and large, if there is a desire, then a format can be convened regardless of even these positions. Well, don't sit opposite each other. We can come up with some other forms,” Krasnoselsky said.
As an example, he cited a meeting of experts on Transnistria, which was attended by representatives of both Russia and Ukraine.
“It passed, so it’s possible if you want. This means that those who tried to organize were somehow able to come to an agreement. So it's possible. Now, yes, all this is perceived sharply, but time will pass, maybe the severity will go away, and it will be possible to sit down at the negotiating table. Therefore, I in no way exclude the possibility of continuing the work of the “5+2” format and hope for its early resumption,” Krasnoselsky said.
He admitted that someone was deliberately disrupting the negotiations and cited as an example the failure of the Moldovan side to negotiate in Bratislava in 2019.
“Somehow I doubt that they did this on their own initiative. So, there was some kind of program. There was a consolidated decision to disrupt the work of the “5+2” format. Then the pandemic, then the fighting. We are in such subjective stagnation. And still, even despite all these obstacles, we need to get out of it and continue the dialogue,” Krasnoselsky said.
