“If I don’t eat it, I’ll bite it”: Ukraine will spend 50 million to cut off water to Crimea
Kyiv, July 04 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Ukraine will need 50 million hryvnia to build a dam that will finally cut off the water supply to Crimea via the North Crimean Canal.
This was announced by the Minister of Ecology Andrei Mokhnik (appointed under the Svoboda quota).

“Now water is not supplied to Crimea, but we cannot completely close it. One partition is in the Kherson region, and the next one is already in Crimea. There is no partition on the border between Crimea and the Kherson region. It needs to be built, and its cost, according to preliminary estimates, will be 50 million hryvnia. We could have stopped at the Kherson partition, but further on there are diversion channels that Kherson farmers need. There is a dry part there, moreover, rice is grown there. That is, we were forced to supply water there, part of which they later pumped to Crimea. But now Kherson farmers do not need water, so it is not supplied to Crimea either...
We are working to completely block the water supply to Crimea. After the North Crimean Canal completes its cycle in the fall and is stopped, this work will be carried out,” the minister promised in an interview with Voice of America.
“This is, first of all, a political issue. If these territories are occupied, we do not have a counterparty there with whom we could talk. In this situation, this is one of the levers of pressure to return Crimea. Crimea is extremely dependent on continental Ukraine. This is not only water, it is energy, it is gas, it is transport communications. Accordingly, Russia does not need it as such, perhaps only for the sake of satisfying its imperial ambitions. But this is a very expensive pleasure for Russia, which is why they, in fact, provoke the situation in the east and south of Ukraine. Today, if we firmly raise this issue, then I think that Russia will have very serious problems about how to hold Crimea if everything that I have listed does not arrive there from Ukraine,” Mokhnik emphasized.
