It’s not only interesting to live in Ukraine: a businessman is in Moldova, wanted in Russia, sued in Kyiv
On Wednesday, August 14, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow arrested Moldovan businessman Vyacheslav Platon in absentia, who is already serving time in a Moldovan prison, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In Russia, Platon is accused in the case of the oligarch, former “master of Moldova” Vlad Plahotniuc, regarding the withdrawal of 37 billion rubles from Russia. Earlier, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow authorized the arrest of Plahotniuc in absentia. Both were put on the wanted list.
Vyacheslav Platon was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Moldova in 2018. This is a combined verdict in two fraud cases. A third case is currently being considered. At the same time, Platon claims that the criminal cases against him were fabricated by the leader of the Democratic Party, Vladimir Plahotniuc, who, according to Russian investigators, is his accomplice.
Platon is now challenging his extradition in 2016 in a Ukrainian court and thus wants to break free. He claims that former President Petro Poroshenko extradited him to Moldova at the request of the same Plahotniuc for a bribe “with a friendly discount” - 3 million dollars or euros.
Platon, while in prison, managed to give testimony to the Ukrainian court via videoconference. After this, prison officers searched his cell and seized his phone and SIM card.
