"Do not be surprised. Horrible pages of history may repeat themselves in Ukraine.”
Kiev journalist Andrey Manchuk, who is now in Poland, wrote in his blog about a meeting with a resident of Western Ukraine, who came to earn money - picking Polish strawberries.
“Olga, a resident of the Kremenets district of the Ternopil region, 21 years old, came to Poland to collect truskavki on one of the so-called “strawberry buses.” They are organized in the summer season by labor recruits - they also supply Ukrainian migrant workers with insurance, hotel reservations, and (for a while) a certain amount of money, which they are sometimes asked to show when crossing the border with the EU.
She doesn’t see any future in her homeland, and dreams of legalizing herself in Poland, getting a normal job here.
But that's not what this post is about. It’s about the fact that when I asked Olya if she had gone on an excursion to Auschwitz, she asked, “What’s there?” Simply because at school and in the bursa they told her about the heroes of the OUN, and not about such banal things.
Don’t be surprised by anything that could happen again in our country,” warns Manchuk.
Thank you!
