They didn’t have time to rebuild: the government is changing, and they are trying to put journalist Muravitsky behind bars again
The court has appointed free defense to the Ukrainian political prisoner, former editor of the Novaya Volna newspaper Vasily Muravitsky, accused of treason and is going to put the journalist in a pre-trial detention center, ignoring the lawyer’s request to postpone the hearing.
Journalist Pavel Volkov, who had previously been arrested for his political position, reported this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Right now they are trying to take Muravitsky into custody again without the presence of lawyer Svetlana Novitskaya.
“Novitskaya is in the Kyiv Court of Appeal and filed a petition to postpone the hearing in the Muravitsky case. However, contrary to Art. 59 of the Constitution of Ukraine, art. 53, 324 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine and the ECHR precedent in the case of Bartai vs Georgia (violation of Article 6 of the Convention - the court’s refusal to adjourn a hearing at the request of a lawyer who is in another hearing), the court appointed a free lawyer (without giving time to get acquainted with the case) and is considering the prosecutor’s petition to place the journalist in a pre-trial detention center,” Volkov wrote.
Let us remind you that several months ago Muravitsky’s preventive measure was changed and he was released from custody pending trial.
