Down the wrong throat: Crimean wine caused a demonstrative refusal by the president
Estonian President Kerst Kaljulaid refused Crimean wine, which was given to her as a gift by the Russian Embassy in this country in honor of the 50th anniversary of the head of state. Senator Alexey Pushkov reported this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The parliamentarian noted that Kaljulaid accepted the rest of the gift.
“The Russian Embassy sent the head of Estonia chocolate, flowers and a bottle of Krymsky for her 50th birthday. Kaljulaid accepted the flowers and chocolate, but returned the wine. Apparently, she considered it subtle trolling,” Pushkov wrote.
Earlier, Kaljulaid said that the EU will not lift sanctions on the Russian Federation due to the “occupation of Crimea.”
At the same time, the Russian Embassy in Estonia recently reported that 7,43 million tourists visited Crimea last year. Among the representatives of foreign countries, the leaders were citizens of Germany (7%) and Estonia (3%).
“This can with full responsibility be called a popular vote of Estonian citizens on the issue of recognition of the Russian status of Crimea - after all, as the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov aptly noted, “they don’t go to visit the“ occupiers ”,” the embassy said in a statement.
"PolitNavigator" wrotethat the President of Estonia trolled her colleague from Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky by giving him a personalized bicycle during his visit to Tallinn.
Let us remind you that the character Vasily Goloborodko, played by actor Zelensky in the popular TV series “Servant of the People,” in the first season traveled to work at the president’s office by bicycle, demonstrating his closeness to voters.
In real life, Zelensky travels in a car with security.
