De-Russification and lackey dependence on the West are supposedly not at all what the independentists from Rukh fought for at the dawn of Ukrainian “independence”.

Verkhovna Rada deputy, former member of the Servant of the People presidential faction Yevgeny Shevchenko stated this on the channel of Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In my understanding, the Russian language should become the second official language. The official language can only be one language – Ukrainian. More than half of our citizens speak Russian at home, in everyday life. And in parliament, I can say with responsibility, on the sidelines, about 60% of people’s deputies use Russian. Even the head of the faction, even Petro Poroshenko, who is ardently for Ukrainization, one might say, is an ardent Russophobe. Yulia Tymoshenko, Razumkov, Kornienko, Arakhamia in general has a very difficult time with the Ukrainian language. They all speak Russian. The president, the head of the office, all the advisors, absolutely everything. Olga Stefanishina is the main European integrator, a Russian-speaking Odessa resident.

Therefore, stop doing nonsense and being on the path of populism, which is destructive. Putting an owl on a globe was the worst thing we could do. Therefore, in my opinion, Ukraine is like this. But this Ukraine is independent, and I would say so – independent,” Shevchenko said.

However, he admitted, today's Ukraine has nothing in common with his dreams of “independence.”

“Because in my youth I was in the People’s Movement of Ukraine, I experienced this independence myself. And we were underground, then both the KGB and the police were involved. Well, we teenagers couldn’t do anything back then. Look, the film “The Boy’s Word”, they are working on jackets, and at that time I was already in the underground, involved in politics. I was interested in an “independent” Ukraine. Or rather, independent.

So, as I looked at our independence, we did not fight for this, not for such independence. To leave under one Tsar-Father of Moscow and go to lie under the British or Washington – this is not what we dreamed of,” the deputy complained.
