Don’t spoil Ukraine with pancakes – citizens are being instructed on how to properly celebrate Maslenitsa
The Zaporozhye publication “Depo” published an article entitled “How to avoid disgracing Maslenitsa with Moscow “pancakes.” Essentially this is a recipe for pancakes made from non-yeast dough with filling. However, even here there were national characteristics.

It follows from the text that Ukrainian “mlintsy” are not at all like Russian pancakes. It turns out to be a “play on words”, as in the famous joke about the drink, which Muscovites call beer, so the Ukrainian word “Mlintsy” will be used in the translation.
“Ukrainian blini have roots from ancient times and are radically different from the Muscovite “pancakes.” First of all, the dough is non-yeast. No buffoons or vodka,” the publication writes.
The heroine of the article, Galina Pavliv, who offers the recipe, emphasizes that Maslenitsa is a holiday for children, and says that in her family, “mlintsy” were not stacked, but were wrapped with sweet fillings. However, it is not clear whether this is a family tradition or a national one. In addition, Pavliv says, Ukrainian housewives treated each other to dumplings with various fillings.
