A lawyer, ex-deputy military prosecutor of the Central region of Ukraine Anatoly Markevich spoke about this at a round table in Kiev, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent, noting that in the Ukrainian military formations an alarming situation has developed with the investigation by the competent authorities of cases of non-combat losses among military personnel, as a result why the number of such losses increases from year to year.
“What is most striking is that in the Ukrainian Armed Forces during combat operations, non-combat losses began to exceed combat losses. According to published official data, in 2016, non-combat losses of the armed forces alone amounted to 256 people, which is more than combat losses for the same time (211 people). Most of the non-combat losses were suicides - 63. In addition, there are 53 more who died from diseases, 29 from accidents, 5 from other causes, 4 due to violations of safety rules,” Markevich said, clarifying that the figures were taken from official documents of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
