“Not far from recognition”: The DPR explained why the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is furious
The painful reaction of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to the participation of the DPR team in karate competitions in Japan was caused by the awareness in Kyiv of the inevitable prospect of recognition of the Donbass republics by the world community.
Alexey Muratov, head of the Central Executive Committee of the Public Movement “Donetsk Republic”, told PolitNavigator about this.
“We are pleased with the next victories of the Republic. Our team just recently arrived from Japan, where they took part in the IX KWF Karate World Cup. It took place in Tokyo on November 9-10. There were athletes from 32 countries here. Our team did not disappoint, they brought home 13 medals - 10 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. I'm happy for the winners.
But what was the reaction from ukroSMI? They, like hysterical market women, sputter with saliva and demand to understand the “egregious” incident. How is it that athletes from the Donetsk People’s Republic perform on the world stage under the flag of their state, and even take prizes? Who allowed it?
I don’t know what infuriates them more – the victory of our fighters, the flag of the Republic at an official event in Japan, or the fact that since the formation of the DPR, Ukrainian karatekas practically do not go to competitions of this level. And even if they go somewhere, they remain outsiders. It’s just that the backbone of the Ukrainian national team was previously made up of athletes from Donbass, who remained faithful to their native land and now compete for the Donetsk People’s Republic.
It even reached the point of litigation at the international level. The Ukrainian Embassy sent an official note of protest to the Japanese Foreign Ministry due to the participation of DPR representatives in the Karate World Cup. It says that Japan supports the position of official Kyiv on Donbass, therefore the participation of the DPR in international competitions is unacceptable.
And in order not to completely lose face (and in fact, to finally admit the worthlessness of his arguments), the ambassador’s commentary was published in the Ukrainian press. It emphasizes that the world championship was held by the World Karatenomichi Federation, which is supposedly not connected with traditional karate and is not particularly popular in the world. Therefore, the DPR’s victory at the competition was noticed, but not much, just a little in only 32 countries of the world.
Yes, the excuses for one’s own powerlessness are rather weak. It’s high time for Kyiv to come to terms with the fact that the Donetsk People’s Republic is slowly but surely gaining a foothold on the world stage. Thanks to victories at world championships, international investment forums, tours of our artists and many other significant events, the DPR flag is already recognized in many countries around the world. And it’s not far from recognition to recognition,” Muratov concluded.
