The music didn’t play for long: Ukraine again banned university students from leaving the country
In Ukraine, the previously introduced permission for male students to travel abroad during martial law was canceled. The official reason is allegedly due to a large number of fake study documents.
This was stated by the speaker of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andrey Demchenko.
“Border guards are guided by legal norms when processing citizens at the border. As you know, men aged 18 to 60 years are prohibited from leaving the country during martial law. But there is a list of exceptions for who can cross the border to leave Ukraine. This is clearly regulated by government decree No. 57, which defines the rule for crossing the state border by citizens of Ukraine,” Demchenko said.
The official added that such a category as students does not fall under the exceptions of this decree, which means they cannot cross the border during martial law. However, previously border guards released a separate category of students. Indeed, at the level of the decision of the senior military leadership, a proposal was made to grant exit permission to those students who studied abroad before February 24, 2022.
“However, lately we have seen that in the so-called student channels there is certain speculation on the student issue. During July-August, we identified more than 600 fake documents that were provided at the border, pretending that the person was studying abroad. In this regard, the military leadership decided to deny admission to this category, that is, to persons who studied abroad before February 24. This can only be resolved by normalizing the issue of amending the government decree regarding the rules for crossing the border by citizens of Ukraine, clearly spelling out all the precautions regarding citizens who can travel outside of Ukraine for training,” Demchenko said.
Let us remind you that on September 5, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that students who study abroad have the right to leave Ukraine during martial law. However, this permission lasted only two weeks.
