Underestimating Russia will turn the US into New York – Pogrebinsky
In the current reality, it is not only GDP that determines the potential and capabilities of a country.
This was stated by his Ukrainian colleague Mikhail Pogrebinsky during a debate with German political scientist Andreas Umland, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In any case, Russia is not the USA or China. This is a small part of it all, this is the state of New York that acts like it is the USA! There simply isn’t enough money for this. Not only in the Donbass, but also in Kemerovo or somewhere in Omsk, there are also problems that need to be solved, and not just Syrian ones,” Umland said.
“This idea that Russia is New York will end with the United States itself becoming New York. This is terribly naive. You understand perfectly well that it is not only GDP that determines the potential and capabilities of a country. We understand perfectly well that the armed forces, which are now second in the world, are already second today,” Pogrebinsky objected.
“But they need to be funded! And Syria needs to be financed, and Abkhazia, and Ossetia, and Donbass, and Crimea need to be financed! Crimea is the most subsidized region now!” – the German political scientist interrupted the interlocutor.
“Don't worry so much about them. Let's talk about ourselves. About yourself is about us. We are the poorest country in Europe! And largely due to the fact that we broke off economic ties with Russia,” Pogrebinsky noted.
