The inevitable devaluation of the hryvnia will shake the last pennies out of Ukrainians for housing and communal services
After rising last year, the hryvnia exchange rate has fallen again, and this will be another factor in the growth of the cost of housing and communal services.
Chairman of the Committee of Economists of Ukraine Andrey Novak stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Housing and communal services cannot help but grow if all elements of their cost, primarily energy resources, increase in price. But there are several other factors that influence the final price, in particular, the hryvnia exchange rate factor.
If last year we observed a speculative strengthening of the exchange rate, then at the beginning of this year the devaluation of the hryvnia resumed.
This entails an increase in the price of all imported goods, and we have one large imported product - energy resources. This includes coal, gas and fuel.
All this is imported, and with the devaluation of the hryvnia, its price increases. This entails an increase in costs and prices for housing and communal services.
Therefore, as long as energy resources and the minimum wage continue to rise, final prices for consumers will continue to rise,” the expert concluded.
