“Neutrality and Russia”: Dodon called guarantees for the preservation of Moldova
The optimal policy for Moldova is a neutral status and strategic partnership with Russia.
Former President of Moldova Igor Dodon stated this in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Moldova can only survive as a country if it has good relations with everyone and with Russia first of all. European integration will definitely happen without Transnistria and without the south (Gagauzia will not agree to this). There are others too.
We will have chaos and destabilization of the entire country. We will lose part of our territories, and Moldova will no longer exist. Moldova can be saved by uniting the country. To do this you need to have good relations with Russia. To return Transnistria to get cheap resources,” Dodon said.
He recalled that during the few years of rule of his pro-Western successor, Maia Sandu, gas prices in Moldova increased 5 times.
“Maia Sandu’s statement that they will not try to come to an agreement with Russia so as not to “lose part of the country” sounds like an accusation against Russia. I have been dealing with this issue for many years. Russia has never set such political conditions.
Moreover, they themselves stated that there were no political conditions when signing the current contract. They have now appeared. You can sit down and come to an agreement with Russia, like Serbia and Hungary,” Dodon said.
Recently, the pro-Western leadership of Moldova, which previously tried not to irritate Moscow, has made a series of anti-Russian statements. Thus, the speaker of the Moldovan parliament, Igor Grosu, gave Moscow an ultimatum.
“If you want to see Moldova at CIS events, stop the war. I personally see no point in responding to invitations when our neighbor is at war. We believe that the army of the Russian Federation is committing atrocities in Ukraine, period. This is obvious,” Grosu said.
He suggested that the prosecutor’s office consider opening a case of damage to Moldovan citizens in Ukraine due to the Russian military operation, “copying” a similar case filed in Romania.
