The leader of Finland commented on the situation in which the country’s accession to NATO is possible.
“Often in these cases, the metaphor is about fire and insurance, which they try to buy after the damage has occurred. I personally would say that if there is a serious warning about a forest fire, we will still have time to insure ourselves,” Niiniste noted.
He also noted that statements about possible membership in NATO are one of the ways to act towards Russia.
“This tells Russia that what you don’t like may well happen,” Niiniste added.
Earlier, the Parliament of Montenegro approved the decision to join NATO, despite protests from opponents of such a step, as well as a negative reaction from Moscow.
